Swarovski ‘Crystal Loves Leather’ Exhibit in Beijing

CRYSTALLIZED™ – Swarovski Elements is delighted to present highlights and designs from its ‘Crystal Loves Leather’ initiative in Beijing Legation Quarter from April 8 – 12, 2009, following the world tour from Paris, Tokyo, New York, and Seoul. Swarovski Elements Greater China Region Vice President Georg Nussdorfer took part in the conference. He introduced the brand development process of Swarovski and subtle cutting technology.

Just as the name shows, actually, the name has the meaning of applying crystals onto the finest smooth leather. We have to admit that it is really a great challenge with an extraordinary explosion of creativity. Even it is no doubt that Swarovski Elements is the leader of modern fashion trend. The avant-garde designers let their fantasies run free and created startling objects such as a glittering bunny mask and a hat that doubles as a handbag. Commercial accessories creations include beautiful handbags, belts and other quality leather accessories, and perfectly reflect chic design that focuses on the unification of the two materials. As far as I concerned, the pursuit of creative cooperation that leads to new and exciting applications for crystal has been a hallmark of the company policy since it was first founded 112 years ago and has now spread across the entire spectrum of the world of top design.

This exhibition not only presents the creativity and innovation on CRYSTALLIZED™- Swarovski Elements applying on leather pieces, but also exhibits exquisite one-of-a-kind showpieces from more than 40 world-renowned designers in the luxury field, including Stuart Weitzman、Escada、Coccinelle、Kaviar Gauche、Hugo Boss、Michael Teperson etc.

Especially, in addition to the international pieces, Chinese mainland famous designer Frankie Xie and Shiatzy Chen from Taiwan have shown their own creations made of crystal and leather. Two Chinese supermodels Mo Wandan and Dai Xiaoyi have also been invited to participate in the design process.

It's a challenge to make a perfect match of crystal and leather. But designers Frankie Xie and Shiatzy Chen have treated the mix as an opportunity for innovation, both in terms of design and also technology. And the results are used to decorate accessories from collars and belts to bags and shoes.

Designer Shiatzy Chen said, "The silk road is my inspiration. For me, fur and leather are a little bit dry. So when crystal is mixed, there is a balance. I want to make some kind of a breakthrough regarding the mixing of these two elements. Crystal comes in a variety of shapes. It's hard to design and cut. But if you make the right choice, you can create a fine piece. My collection is suitable for evening parties."

In my opinion, we should give high praise to the great CRYSTALLIZED™. Thanks to it, designers fortunately get wider space of creation and inspiration. Hope there are more and more particular items in fashion industry.
